Using Swagger in Umbraco 8

At Code Wizards, we love Umbraco. It's a fantastic flexible CMS and, for us, it's the right tool for the job 99% of the time.

But if you've not spent a lot of time with Umbraco it can sometimes be a little unclear how you can add middleware in to the OWIN pipeline.

Especially when a new major version of Umbraco is released and things have drastically changed.

R U Hacking 2019 Season

We were thrilled to be part of R U Hacking. A great event with a fantastic group of talented and enthusiastic hackers. #RUHacking It was encouraging to see the wide array of technologies being employed and fascinating to learn about how each team decided on their challenge and solution.  Teams didn't play it safe and many of them utilised languages and frameworks they had neve ...

Alok Sharma Visit

Code Wizards were proud to welcome the Her Majesty’s Government’s Minister of State for Employment on Friday.

Alok Sharma MP graciously gave his time to visit Code Wizard’s Reading office to see how a high tech IT company researches and develops technology for its clients.

As part of the visit the discussion covered the use of research and development in UK businesses and the importance of this continuing post-brexit; how we encourage the increased export of these skills and technologies to other territories; and how games, esports and gaming fit into Code Wizards’ repertoire and the challenges they are currently facing in the current climate.

Using React as a front end for Umbraco

Umbraco is great but have you ever thought about using a single page application framework on top of it? I enjoy building responsive, reactive and immersive web front ends but using the MVC/Razor engine doesn't always achieve that. Most interactions with a multi-page app are as simple as hyperlinks or html form posts. Certain effects can be achieved purely with CSS, but these ...

2019 - Moving Forwards - Retail

Introduction Retail is in turmoil. Online sales are increasing but at lower margins and higher cost demands. Offline sales are decreasing at dramatically lower / pencil-thin margins and footfall is slowing. Retailers are failing and (brexit induced) lack of UK investment is preventing a number of them from being saved and revitalised. There is no magic answer but retailers ...

2019 - Moving Forwards - Voice Technology

Introduction So far we've seen two major ways that we interact with computers.  Firstly we had TUI (Text [based] User Interface) where a user needed to understand the computer's requests and responses.  These were clunky to use in all but the most textually based applications (for example categorising items or adding products etc) and were of little use with graphical assets ...

Code Wizards expansion into Birmingham is huge success

Following the continued expansion of Code Wizards based in Reading, it’s six months since they recently opened a Midlands sales office based at Alpha Works in central Birmingham and they have already become well established within the city.

Established in 2002, Code Wizards quickly established themselves as specialists in web based digital architecture by mixing invention with engineering to help businesses automatically scale their business.

Million Miles Together Club appoints PR and Web partners

When Eugene Gilkes, one of Great Britain’s top decathletes of the 1980’s combined elements of his 35-year career in sport, health and wellbeing, business and community service to found and develop the idea of the Million Miles Together Club (MMT) he knew the concept would grab widespread attention.

Alongside a team of like minded social entrepreneurs, they have developed an inclusive social impact community framework concept that through their Rotary Club partners across the UK will support Local Authorities, businesses and community leaders in transforming their communities and saving lives.

To assist MMT in their growth plans two Birmingham based strategic partners have been appointed, Code Wizards for technology and digital related work and Prominent Media and Communications to handle their promotional activity.

Esports - More than mainstream

Esports, an exploding movement that features competitive video game play, is gaining a greater—and more respected—foothold at the university level. The phenomenon is a growing industry with huge spectatorship numbers, and with expectations that the global esports economy will soon reach nearly £900 million, universities and brands alike are figuring out how to access this heretofore unfamiliar talent pool.
