When Eugene Gilkes, one of Great Britain’s top decathletes of the 1980’s combined elements of his 35-year career in sport, health and wellbeing, business and community service to found and develop the idea of the Million Miles Together Club (MMT) he knew the concept would grab widespread attention.

Alongside a team of like minded social entrepreneurs, they have developed an inclusive social impact community framework concept that through their Rotary Club partners across the UK will support Local Authorities, businesses and community leaders in transforming their communities and saving lives.

To assist MMT in their growth plans two Birmingham based strategic partners have been appointed, Code Wizards for technology and digital related work and Prominent Media and Communications to handle their promotional activity.

Eugene commented, “The MMT Clubs initiative offers a brand new way of harnessing the power of communities to inspire a healthier, happier and more caring society.

“Each club will provide a means through our online platform that is currently being created by Code Wizards, for anyone to convert their ordinary everyday physical activity and acts of kindness into miles for their chosen community.

“A community’s first target will be to achieve one million community miles together and Prominent Media and Communications will head up the social-interaction that gives this ambitious partnership initiative its inspirational name.

“MMT clubs will measurably improve each community populations physical and mental health and also increase local volunteering – and in doing so it will play a significant role in the fight against social isolation and loneliness.

“Together with our strategic partners, we will provide the online and community-based support that will further positively impact the spirit, resilience and wellbeing across each participating community.

Stuart Muckley, managing director at Code Wizards commented, “Their innovation will be in the way they will be able to inspire, coordinate and maintain each local community partnership and their working ecosystem.

“Our use of new and creative technology will be invaluable in bringing to life the many fun and rewarding ways that through MMT any club and community can benefit by coming together to achieve its Million Miles goal – and we look forward to working alongside Eugene and his team.”

Steve Holden managing director of Prominent Media and Communications said, “We are delighted to be involved with this ground breaking initiative and we are currently working on adding to their national network of partners for the launch in April 2019 with several select Local Authority Community Club partnerships that will include school communities, too.”
